1. Title: Consumer Awareness Objectives:The Consumer Club facilitates consumer awareness among the students. The Student Consumer Club:
Context: Consumers in India are largely ignorant of rules, laws and codes. They are also unaware of their rights. A vast majority are also illiterates in many backward districts and states. Hence, dishonest producers and retailers cheat such unsuspecting and ignorant people without difficulty. Hence, consumer welfare is in a state far from desirable. As most of the students are from rural background, they did not have any idea about consumer rights and protection and it is the responsibility of the institution to educate and make them aware of their rights and responsible citizens. Practice: Consumer club was formed under the aegis of the Department of Commerce with the HOD as convener. All the students of the college are the primary members of the club. A dedicated organizing committee was formed consisting of faculty members and student representatives. The committee organizes meetings, plan events, define objectives, and allocate responsibilities. National Consumer Day and Consumer Awareness Week are the important events celebrated annually by the club to promote awareness about consumer rights and protection and aims to educate and empower students and citizens to become informed consumers in their personal and professional lives. A comprehensive awareness campaign will be launched before the event to inform students and public about the importance of Consumer's Day. Posters, banners, and digital media were used to create buzz and generate interest among the student community. Social media platforms, college website, and newsletters were utilized to share updates, event details, and consumer-related information. Eminent guest speakers, including consumer rights activists, lawyers, and representatives from consumer protection organizations, were invited to address the audience. Various interactive sessions, workshops, and panel discussions were organized to engage students and enhance their understanding of consumer rights and responsibilities. Real-life case studies were presented to illustrate the importance of consumer protection and legal remedies available. Student participation was encouraged through quizzes, debates, and group activities related to consumer awareness. Local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working in the field of consumer protection were invited to set up information booths and interact with students. Local businesses and industries were involved in the event to provide practical insights into consumer-related challenges and solutions. Evidences of Success: The impact of the Consumer's Day, Consumer Awareness Week celebrations and other related events are evaluated by tracking changes in students' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviour regarding consumer rights and responsibilities. Regular follow-up sessions and workshops are conducted throughout the year to reinforce the learnings from the events. Problems encountered and resources required: As the College is located in rural area it is difficult to collaborate with government agencies such as the Consumer Affairs Department to provide expert guidance and support for the events. Due to financial constraints of the college it is very challenging to procure the required funds. Non-availability of experts in the field locally is also another major problem for the successful execution of the events. As a result every year the same local available lawyers and others who excelled in consumer affairs are being invited. Conclusion:The Consumer's Day celebration at Subharam Government Degree College serves as a best practice for promoting consumer awareness and education among students. Through meticulous planning with the available resources, collaboration with key stakeholders, and interactive sessions, the event effectively empowers students to become informed and responsible consumers. The college's commitment to hosting such events demonstrates its dedication to holistic education and equipping students with essential life skills beyond the curriculum.

Objectives:
Context:
3. Practice: The College has taken the following significant steps to integrate sustainable practices and environmental awareness into its campus operations. Green Campus Initiative: The College has embraced the concept of a green campus by implementing various sustainable practices. The college NSS wing and Eco Club, consisting of faculty and student representatives, oversees and promote environmental initiatives like tree plantations and safeguarding them, rallies, invited talks etc. Waste Management: The College has implemented a comprehensive waste management system that includes waste collection, segregation, recycling, and composting. The college has designated recycling bins across the campus for different types of waste, such as paper, plastic, and metal. Additionally, organic waste is collected and used for composting, which is then utilized for maintaining the college's gardens and green spaces. Energy Conservation: To reduce energy consumption and promote energy efficiency, the college has installed energy-efficient LED lighting systems across its premises. Water Conservation: The college has installed water-efficient fixtures, such as low-flow toilets and faucets, to minimize water wastage. Rainwater harvesting systems have been set up to collect and store rainwater. Waste water has been channelled and diverted directly to the plants. Tree Plantation and Biodiversity: Recognizing the importance of trees and biodiversity, the college has organized several tree plantation drives on its campus. The college regularly organizes events where students and staff participate in planting and nurturing trees. These efforts not only contribute to environmental conservation but also create a green and pleasant atmosphere on the campus. Awareness Campaigns: The college actively promotes environmental awareness among its students, staff, and the local community. The college conducts seminars, and guest lectures on topics such as climate change, sustainable practices, and environmental conservation. Again on 21st of November, 2023 in collaboration with MANAVATA, a Punganur based NGO one hundred and forty fruit bearing plants (worth Rs. 25,000/-) like mango, coconut, jackfruit etc. were distributed to the students free of cost.
Numerous trees were planted as part of To save water, two rain water harvesting pits and a pond were constructed by the students. Dry leaves and foliage are collected to make vermin compost which in turn is used as manure for the plants in the campus. To reduce the pollution, every Wednesday is being observed as NO VEHICLE DAY and single use plastic is completely banned in the campus. 5. Problems encountered and resources required:
Conclusion: To address these challenges, the college focuses on raising awareness through educational campaigns, collaborating with other student organizations and local environmental groups, seeking external funding sources, and actively engaging students by organizing events, workshops, and initiatives that align with their interests and concerns.
